WHAT TO EXPECT?
Your professional photographer-guide will share photography tips and tricks to capture great pictures of these unique places. We start the tour by travelling one and a half hours to reach Korouoma canyon.
At Korouoma we will hike around three kilometres through the atmospheric Nordic Forest. We reach the viewpoint on top of the canyon to witness the majestic landscapes surrounded by cliffs over 100 metres high. The viewpoint is a fantastic spot for landscape photography and will work as an epic background for anyone wishing to have their portraits taken.
After visiting the viewpoint of Korouoma canyon it is time for next location: old-growth forests and the waterfall of Auttiköngäs. It will take us roughly twenty minutes to reach the location. There, we can hike a bit to reach a view tower at the highest point of the area with incredible views in all directions. From the tower you will see centuries old, protected forests and impressive sceneries over the wilderness area.
Another gem of the area is a natural waterfall, Auttiköngäs Falls. The Auttijoki River was used to transfer logs in old days, and the structures built on waterfall allowed the wood to slide down to the canyon. Today, this structure is preserved as a historical sighting. While enjoying the waterfall views, your guide will also prepare some light lunch cooked on open fire.
GOOD TO KNOW
If we get lucky, we might come across animals like the magnificent Eagle Owl and Capercaillie which is a huge woodland grouse. Keeping an eye of the sky might offer the ultimate reward in the form of Golden Eagle gliding through the air. The Lynx’s have been observed in the area and the river running at the bottom of the canyon offers a nice habitat for the Otters as well. So, equipping with the longer lenses for this adventure might be a good idea.
WHY CHOOSE THIS TOUR?
The tour leaves Rovaniemi at 09:00 and drives approximately 1.5 hours to Korouoma Canyon. There, you hike around three kilometres through forest to a viewpoint above cliffs rising more than 100 metres.
After Korouoma, the journey continues for roughly 20 minutes to Auttiköngäs. A short hike leads through protected old-growth forest toward a viewing tower, with wide views over the surrounding wilderness.
The final main stop is Auttiköngäs Falls and the historic log-floating structures beside the river. The guide prepares a light lunch over an open fire while also sharing photography advice.

Birds and mammals live in the area, but sightings are not guaranteed. Bring a longer lens if wildlife photography is a priority.
The Korouoma section includes an approximately three-kilometre hike. The Auttiköngäs visit also includes a shorter walk to the viewing areas.
